Rebel Talk: "Someday" isn't on the calendar
Birthdays have a way of sneaking up on us. Another candle, another number, another page turned in the book. To me, this year’s birthday felt like just another day—until a couple of people close to me stopped me in my tracks.
They reminded me of something I hadn’t taken the time to let sink in: this past year was a turning point. A year where I didn’t just dream—I did.
I became a pilot.
That wasn’t just some random achievement. For my entire life, flying had lived in my head as a dream—one of those “someday” things. But this past year, I stopped saying “someday” and turned it into “today.” And let me be real with you—it wasn’t easy.
Becoming a pilot tested me in ways I didn’t see coming. There were days of pure determination—long nights of studying, mornings of checklists and procedures, hours in the cockpit wrestling with self-doubt. I faced the voice in my head whispering, what if you’re not cut out for this? I faced the physical challenges, the mental grind, the discipline it demanded. But with every challenge came growth. With every obstacle came confidence.
And when that moment arrived—when the dream became reality—it wasn’t just about earning wings. It was about proving that no dream is meant to stay stuck in your head.
The grind can be ruthless. For me, I get pulled in many directions. From life, kids, and businesses, it can feel like a real grind. Taking time for myself, and making time to turn the dream into reality, was something I hadn't really stopped and thought about. I just kept going. So to those who helped me realize this, thank you. For those reading this, I've had the same thoughts you might be having... "That's someone else, they can do it, I can't do it." Or, "my life is different, I'm too old or I'm too busy", or maybe down the road...". I'm that same person. I have those thoughts all of the time. But please listen to me, I am not special. I am not any different. I fail, a lot. I push out dreams. I have said to myself "someday" a lot. There is a saying that has stuck with me in my life and if it were not for that saying my "someday" fight still feel like it belongs on the calendar. "A year from now you'll wish you had started today". Just start. No matter how small the first steps are.
Think about that thing you’ve been carrying around—the dream you’ve shelved, the goal you keep saying you’ll get to “someday.” Maybe it’s launching that business, running that marathon, writing that book, or getting in the best shape of your life. Whatever it is, I’m here to tell you this: it’s not impossible, it’s just waiting for your determination to show up.
We’re so focused on where we’re headed that we rarely stop long enough to look back and see the mountains we’ve already climbed. The struggles, the nights nobody saw, the mornings you showed up anyway—that’s where your strength was built.
The truth is this: no dream is insurmountable. No goal is too far away. But you’ve got to stop treating it like a fantasy and start treating it like a mission. Because once you step into the grind—the learning, the setbacks, the slow progress—you’ll realize the impossible was never out of reach.
So here’s my challenge to you: take a moment today. Reflect on what you’ve already achieved. Respect the journey you’ve already walked. And then look at that dream you’ve been keeping on the shelf. Because if you’ve already come this far, there’s nothing stopping you from taking flight toward that next horizon.
The journey is where we’re built. The reflection is where we realize just how unstoppable we really are. And the dream? The dream is proof that you were meant for more all along.
Dreams aren’t meant to collect dust in your head. They’re meant to be chased, fought for, and achieved. Reflect on your wins, trust your grit, and take the next step—because if you’ve already carried this much weight, there’s no goal ahead of you that you can’t crush.
Stay Relentless,
Ryan
