Rebel Talk: "Someday" is Dangerous. Flight
"Someday" is a dangerous word. It's a delay tactic, a well-dressed excuse, a crutch we lean on when life's demands overwhelm us. But deep down, we know that the idea of "someday" is fleeting—like clouds shifting in a vast sky, it comes and goes with each passing day. I’ve been guilty of this too. Since I was young, I’ve always said, “Someday, I’m going to fly.” But for years, that dream hovered just beyond reach. Life, kids, business, and obligations filled my calendar. And my "someday" stayed pinned to the fridge, more recently, a gift from my girlfriend, a testament to the promise I kept telling myself I’d fulfill.
Last Christmas, my girlfriend, always supportive and knowing how much I’d talked about flying, gave me an intro pilot lesson. It’s a gift that spoke to the part of me that’s always wanted to see the world from above, to push my limits and feel the exhilaration of something entirely new. But life kept being “life,” and I found myself passing that little certificate every day, whispering the same word: someday.
Then it hit me, as it probably hits us all at some point. "Someday" isn’t going to knock on my door and tell me it’s time. The only way to make it happen was to break out of that mindset and say, "Today is that day."
Two months ago, I started my pilot lessons. And what I can say, is this journey has been as thrilling and challenging as I hoped it would be. It's not just about the mechanics of flying; it's a lesson in discipline, focus, and, most importantly, showing up for yourself. My Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and I were going through maneuvers recently, and in a moment of clarity, I said, "Wow, this just gets better and better." He looked at me with a knowing smile and replied, "I was waiting to hear that from you."
In that moment, something clicked. This wasn’t just about flying; it was about the relentless pursuit of growth, of pushing through the fear, the anxiety, the “what ifs” that try to keep us grounded. There’s a reason I started Relentless Rebel, and it’s moments like these. It’s the reminder that you can have a mountain of obligations, but if you’re waiting for a "perfect" time, you’ll be waiting forever.
I get it—life is hectic. It’s easy to let "someday" slide into the background because it’s rarely convenient to chase our dreams. But the truth is, timing will never be perfect. There will always be commitments and reasons to wait. But if we’re honest with ourselves, there’s no greater gift we can give than to just start. A year from now, you'll look back and wish you had taken that first step today.
I’ll keep you all posted on my progress, but my message is this: don’t let "someday" never come. Don’t let the fear of failure or the weight of obligations keep you from making your dreams happen. It's not easy, but, as with flying, it’s about pushing through, getting a little better with every maneuver, and savoring the journey.
If there’s one thing I can leave you with, it’s this: life waits for no one, and someday is today.
For this reason, the "Someday Never Comes" was made as a reminder for each of us. While we only have a couple items up right now, we'll get this on the rest of our product line this week. Save and use code "Someday" for 11% off any order with this design in it and use it as your reminder when you look in the mirror that you will not go another day letting someday never come.
Stay Relentless,
Ryan
