Rebel Talk: July 5th
There are days that tattoo themselves into your memory forever. July 5th is now inked on mine—a day that started like any other but turned into one of those quiet victories that remind you why you push so damn hard.
It wasn’t the fireworks or the party that made it special. It was me, Lucille—my Harley—and the airplane waiting for me in the hangar. I’d always imagined what it’d feel like to ride my bike to the airport, swap out the rumble of two wheels for the roar of an airplane engine, and watch the world fall away beneath my wings.
It sounds simple on paper, doesn’t it? Just a guy, a bike, and a plane. But behind that simple moment were years of “someday.” Years of telling myself I’d do it. Years of life happening—work, kids, commitments, excuses, delays. Years of that little whisper: “One day you’ll get around to it.”
But here’s the truth no one wants to hear: moments don’t wait around for you to get ready. They don’t show up gift-wrapped. You either carve them out of the rock of your busy life, or they never see the light of day. Someday doesn’t exist until you build it yourself.
July 5th was my Top Gun moment—my personal, rebellious line in the sand. I’ll always remember swapping out Lucille for the plane, tucking her safely in the hangar, and rolling down that runway. I’ll remember the feeling in my chest when the wheels lifted off and I realized: “I did this. No one did it for me. I made it real.”
That’s what I want for you. Not to ride a Harley to a hangar or to fly an airplane—unless that’s your thing. But to chase your “July 5th.” To put something on your calendar that matters so much to you it makes your heart race just thinking about it.
We all have that thing gathering dust—hidden behind excuses and the lie of more time. If you’re waiting for the world to give you permission, stop. No one’s going to knock on your door and say, “Hey, today’s the perfect day to become who you always said you’d be.”
The good stuff never waits. It’s waiting for you—to stand up, saddle up, and take the damn runway.
My July 5th is my reminder that life’s best moments belong to those who chase them down—those who don’t just dream about freedom, but live it, raw and real.
What’s your moment? Name it. Circle it. Put it on the calendar. And when the day comes, remember this: No one else will do it for you. So go. And come back here and tell me all about it.
Stay Relentless,
Ryan
