Rebel Wired: Your Terms - The American Way

The American Way graphic

Inspiration for the weekly Rebel Wired comes from real life experiences. I try to get it out every Friday night. But like you, I am human. This week, life was hectic. I woke up this morning, and it wasn't until after coffee I realized "shit", it's Saturday morning already. So here we are on Saturday already.

Taking care of yourself, and your body, is important to me. Doing things to keep centered, grounded, and aligned. Part of that regiment for me is hitting the chiropractor once every couple of weeks to keep myself aligned.

It's early fall "up north" here in Minnesota. This is my favorite time of the year, September is my favorite month of the year, and my absolute favorite season to spend some time with Lucille.

If you're new to RR, this is Lucille

Lucille and I were spending some quality time together winding around some of Minnesota's lakes on our way to the chiropractor this morning when Hank Williams JR decided to make an appearance. He graced us both with his anthem "The American Way". If you're sick of reading already, catch the tune here.

In a world where conformity often seems like the path of least resistance, this "rebel anthem" has stood the test of time, reminding us of the importance of living life on our own terms and not giving a shit about what others think.

Hank Williams Jr. is known for his distinctive voice, undeniable talent, and a fearless attitude that has become synonymous with his name. And in "The American Way," he crystallizes the essence of what it means to be unapologetically yourself, marching to the beat of your own drum, and embracing the freedom to be who you are, regardless of society's judgments.

The lyrics of this anthem speak to me. Perhaps they speak to you.

**"The American way, don't even ask you just get to live it."**

From the very start, Hank tells us that the American way isn't something you need permission for; it's something you seize. Living life on your terms, recognizing your own agency, taking control of your destiny, and not waiting for anyone else's approval.

**"Got a hole in my guitar where my buddy used to be."**

Life is filled with departures and changes. People may come and go, I've had many come and go, but the most important thing is to stay true to yourself. Your journey may not always include the same companions, but your values, dreams, and passions should remain unwavering. Never waver from who you are, and what makes you tick. We get one life, don't spend it worrying about or seeking someone else's approval.

**"I believe in the good Lord up above."**

Regardless of your personal beliefs, faith can play a pivotal role in your journey. It can provide you with the strength and guidance to stand up for what you believe in, even when it's not the popular choice. Which in today's world, being rooted in faith is becoming less and less popular. It's a shame, but I have my beliefs, you have yours, I'm not here to win a popularity contest, and whatever anyone else thinks or tries to instill in you, f*uck 'em, stay true to yourself. It's your life, not theirs.

**"Don't give a damn if you don't like my jeans."**

This line is the ultimate declaration of independence. Living life on your own terms means wearing your "jeans", your apparel with pride, whatever it may represent – your style, your choices, your quirks. It's about being comfortable in your own skin, even if others find it unconventional.

**"I said I don't give a damn if you don't like my hair."**

Our appearance often becomes a canvas for self-expression. Don't let anyone dictate how you should look or what image you should project. Your hair, your style, and your identity are your own.

**"I live the American way."**

At its core, this song is an homage to the American spirit of rugged individualism, where people have historically carved their own paths and celebrated their uniqueness. But you don't have to be American to embrace this philosophy. The American way is, in essence, the universal way of living life on your own terms.

In a world where conformity can stifle our creativity and individuality, "The American Way" by the legendary Hank Williams Jr. serves as a reminder that our true power lies in embracing our authentic selves. So, let's take a page from Hank's book, or a lyric from his songs, and live life boldly, unapologetically, and on our own terms. Celebrate our uniqueness and let the world know that we don't give a damn about what they think – because living authentically is "The American Way."

Stay Relentless,

Stay authentic,

Ryan
